It has been Golden Week this week on Okinawa. A week consisting of 4 different holidays for the Japanese. The last holiday being Children's Day is celebrated today, on May 5th. All week now these Carp flags, called koinoburi, have been flying to celebrate children--and wish for their health, happiness and prosperity. All across the island there have been giant carp streamers floating in the wind. There were dozens and dozens of them flying over a little river that runs through our community. And of course we had to fly a few off our balcony, too!
