Yesterday, the kids and I went down to the beach at low tide. The water was out farther than it's been in a while and we saw some amazing things in the tide-pools. Lots of colorful fish, crabs, starfish, and sea urchins. Our favorite encounter was swimming with 4 little squids. They would swim close to us, then we'd splash a little water toward them and they would squirt their black ink and swim off a bit. We did this over and over several times. We've also been watching a pair of Pacific Reef Egrets who've got a nest in a crevice in one of the big rocks on the shore. We see the Mom and Dad take turns staying with the nest or hunting for food. Yesterday, we watched one of the parents catch a fish and then fly back to the nest with it. And we saw a baby!
